Gimmicks are thought of as cheap, stupid, low-brow, or for lack of a better word, cheesy.
The definition of a gimmick is “a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or business.”
You have 2.4 second to capture attention on social media. With our attention being sought constantly on every screen, grabbing attention is essential.
So why are we so quick to cheapen gimmicks as they will grab attention. People think of pumpkin beer with a cinnamon sugar rim as a gimmick, those insanely large milkshakes with tons of candy or baked good on top as a gimmick.
Millennials and Gen Z love having a product or experience that is Instagram worthy. Getting your product or service shared is free marketing and advertising and become social currency. It is seen and then sought out by others.
Gimmicks are good because they attract attention and bring people into the doors of your business. Bringing people in is the first step.
Keeping those customers or clients is not. your job with good service and an excellent experience. Gimmicks will not make long-lasting customers, their experience and your branding will do that.
Gimmicks are good for attracting new customers but keeping them is accomplished with great service and branding.
